This week (March 9 – 15) is National Problem Gambling Awareness Week. The event is explained below:
The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) is pleased to present the 6th Annual Problem Gambling Awareness Week campaign, a grassroots public awareness and outreach campaign. It will be held March 9-15, 2008.
The goal of this campaign is to educate the general public and health care professionals about the warning signs of problem gambling and raise awareness about the help that is available both locally and nationally.
Please visit their website for more information regarding how you can do your part to educate the public about the dangers of gambling.
Of particular interest is their article on gambling and domestic violence. Here they present a startling statistic that 72 children were abandoned in casinos in a 14-month period in Indiana alone.
